Ann Hawksley taught Art in Leeds after obtaining BA Hons in graphic design. Later she worked as a storyboard artist in London. In 1984 she became a full time portrait painter but have since diversified into other areas of painting whilst still working to commission.

People frequently feature in her work and she often uses her own photographs as reference, retaining a degree of ambiguity. Favourite topics include London in the rain, crabbing on the Isle of Wight, picnicking on Clapham Common and aerial views of party-goers. She always work in oils. She shows mainly in Seaview, Isle of Wight ,The Pond Gallery, Clapham Common, Gallery 63a, Kingston and the Riverside, Barnes.
