ALLAN MANHAM
Allan Manham, moved by the pottery of Ancient Korea and Sub-Saharan Africa, has aimed to create an upward motion from the constructed clay, rising from a narrow base. Colour is usually understated and integral to the pot form, whether by additions of oxides and stains to the clay body, or by way of incised and inlaid lines and scratches.

His method is to make hand built coiled pots as he finds that the whole rhythm of hand building suits his approach far more than throwing. The process is both painstaking and lengthy, lasting several days. It requires building up and scraping down and smoothing, followed by burnishing and polishing
